The Most Important Business In Your Life.

Terry Danylak Self Improvement 4 minutes

Today I want to talk to you about you. Yes, you.

More specifically, You, Inc.

You are the CEO, CFO, COO, and workforce of a business called You, Inc. How you run You, Inc. will either result in a life that you want or the life that others make you have.

Most people have no idea how to run You, Inc. because no one has taught them how to do it right.

And that is a problem we are going to fix.

Not right away, but slowly. One step at a time.

To Start, All You Need Is The First Step

You, Inc. is the most important business you will ever run. It will make you rich and it will make you happy if you know how to do it well. There are many aspects of You, Inc. that you must master, but today, let’s start with these three:

  • Your First Impression
  • How You Think
  • How You Talk

Let’s break down each of the aspects of You, Inc.

Your First Impression

Here’s the harsh truth: People buy you with their eyes. Your first impression matters a great deal. It is how new people judge you and decide whether they want to do business with you or be your friends. That’s the reality of it.

So you must always make a great first impression. Here’s how:

  • Create a short, easy-to-understand answer to the question, “What do you do?”
  • Dress well when you meet people for the first time.
  • Always be welcoming. Smile when you see someone you know.
  • When you meet someone for the first time, ask what you can do for them.

Remember, people will judge you on how you look, behave, and make them feel. Always leave a positive first impression.

How You Think

The thoughts in your brain direct the actions of your body. That’s simple enough. But there’s more to it.

How you think will make or break You, Inc. If you have a positive, can-do attitude, nothing can stop you. No failure. No rejection. Nothing.

If you think you can’t, you are correct because you are starting with defeat. You are giving up before you’ve explored all the options. Failing before trying something is not the same as failing after you try it.

Here are six beliefs to live by:

  1. You will fail more than you will succeed. Just stay with it.
  2. You can’t control everything that comes at you, but you can control how you respond to it.
  3. Make that cold call. Ask for a discount. Take that shot.
  4. Having twice the money will make you want twice the money. Want something else.
  5. Confidence comes from believing in a successful outcome and learning from failed ones.
  6. Comparing yourself to others is a waste of time.

How You Talk

Your thinking will influence how you talk. And how you talk will get you everything you’ve wanted. That is the one thing that all successful people have in common. They know how to communicate.

There are three modes of communication.

  • Communicating with your behaviour
  • Communicating with your speaking
  • Communicating with your writing

To get you started, let’s talk about how you can communicate with your speaking. It’s the easiest method to improve. Here are five tips:

  • Keep it short when giving a speech or telling a story.
  • Tell stories. Here’s how:
    • Start with a challenge
    • Describe the hero overcoming the challenge
    • Talk about what the hero learned.
  • Tell jokes, BUT only about yourself.
  • Always speak to the person, not the room.
  • Don’t try to impress the person. Move them.

Implementing these tips will make an immediate difference. Try it.

Today’s Action Steps

Here’s how you can act on this advice today:

  • Create an interesting answer to “What do you do?” questions. Tell a story.
  • Next time you want to say, “I can’t,” say, “I can try.”
  • When you speak to some new, give them your full attention.

Once you’ve mastered these three steps move on to improving other aspects of You, Inc.

Outro

Remember, You, Inc. keeps you in business and delivers the benefits you’ve always wanted. Take good care of it, learn how to make it work better and you will achieve your goals in no time.
